Maris Gardens is one of the worlds largest aquaponics farms, located in the town of Mililani on the island of Oahu. Aquaponics, soil-less farming through the use of aquaculture, is rooted in environmental stewardship. In order to teach the community at large more about sustainability 9th grade students from Mid-Pacific, a K-12 project-based learning school in Honolulu, studied the workings of this modern farm to create this app for the public. At Maris Gardens, sustainable farming is paired with alternative energy. to produce organically certified and food safety certified crops for local restaurants, grocery stores, and farmers markets.

With this app, you will be able to tour Maris Gardens with a mobile device. This app was created by 9th grade Mid-Pacific students after they spent dozens of days at the farm in the mode of experiential learning. The students were studying sustainability and were challenged by their teachers to capture the essence of the modern farm in a digital format. App users can expect to walk the farm, scan QR codes at various locations on site, pull up informational student-created videos, essays, schematics, and photos in order to best understand sustainable agriculture.

Please download this app and contact Maris Gardens to schedule a time and date to tour their wonderful farm. Use this student-created app to receive an in-depth narrative about the sustainable, aquaponic, soil-less farming happening in Hawaii.
